Welcome to the second edition of "tonight on Exile Island" which is what I call the period where literally everybody else is asleep and I do confessionals. Much like Bachelor in Paradise, I do it pretty much every night and refuse to adhere to a format. Today I will do this in four sections.
~~Section 1: N8 R8s ~~
Today, I watched Vacation, before I watched the movies five thoughts really got into my mind:
1) I noticed the price of my ticket was 240 pesos versus my ticket to Inside Out, which was 250 pesos. For those not familiar with Philippine-American currency exchange rate, a difference of 10 pesos is equal to roughly 21 cents. I have no idea how, who or why they decided that the movie Vacation was exactly 10 pesos worse than Inside Out. Did they think that lowering the price by 10 pesos would encourage people to buy the movie? Who is watching a movie when 250 pesos is a deal breaker and 240 pesos is fine. Especially considering that the concessions are typically around the price if not more than the movie itself. It's not even like a change thing because we have 20 peso bills here.
2) This movie was R-18. Historically I know that the Philippines has a habit of cutting movies so they don't get the R-18 rating (IIRC Wolf of Wall Street was cut by 30 minutes to get an R-15), but I don't know what aspect of Vacation they deemed too important to the plot that was more risque than anything in Wolf of fucking Wall Street.
3) They carded me in the theater. I know I'm 18 and have a massive baby face, but I don't get carded in fucking clubs. I know that this might be just the Philippines, but since when was a 17 year old laughing at a fucking dick joke in a theater a bigger public menace than a 17-year old getting into the ring and fighting a lady little person (please correct me with the proper PC term?) for 100 pesos in a bar in the middle of the red light district.
4) There were nine people in the theater. Each person was by themselves. Each person was seated to be as far from everybody else as possible. Literally everybody else was older than 60 years old. i have no idea why or how this happens. I get it that its 2pm on a weekday, but it's technically a public holiday tomorrow. I then realized that I shouldn't judge these men because I was just as sad as them - watching a movie alone. Also - one other white guy interestingly enough.
5) They didn't show any ads before the movie. Idk if its like this in America but for the past two movies I watched I didn't see any trailers before the movie but they only showed advertisements - for stuff like the armed forces, children's vitamins and the general movie "don't record this" advertisement. They didn't even show the "don't record this" and "don't pirate" ads (which fun fact - the don't pirate ad here has pirated music). Did the armed forces and the representatives of Children's Vitamins didn't want to be associated with the movie? Maybe i'ts the R-18 rating? I don't know.
Anyway, the movie Vacation I r8 a 2/8. The movie seems like a collection of coke-covered joke pitches left on the SNL and just threw it into the movie with no reason to do so. There isn't character development - even things that "should" develop the characters don't do at all and the tone of the movie is all over the place. There are some funny jokes (I counted three funny scenes) and particularly Chris Hemsworth and Charlie Day were great in the movie, but honestly the entire movie probably shouldn't exist.
~~Section 2: Recap of the Day in the Faroes ~~
Let me discuss me talking to people, from least interesting to most interesting:
1. JP -> JP didn't respond to my message. -_-. Typical pepperoni person.
2. Stacy -> I told her "congrats miss (or probably Mr. because this is both Stranded and the internet) leader" and then she replied "haha". k.
3. Papa Smurf -> Papa Smurf and I had light joke-laden conversation about how he was going to get drunk af but he said that because it was 11:30 it was too late. Sorry to get on my soap box here, but when do parties fucking start in America? The typical "party hours" for at least my group of friends is from 10pm-4am, and even then you don't actually show up until 11pm and nobody is really drunk until midnight. Even then if you don't plan on hooking up with anybody you'll probably be outside at 3am.
4. Jessica -> Jessica offered an "enhanced relationship" between the two of us. I don't really know what it means, but of course as a modern straight man after looking at the real Jessica DeBen's instagram I was disappointed, but I agreed.
5. Cecilia -> Cecilia and I talked plainly about being each other's ride or die and Cecilia essentially gave me a lot of information on what went down on the old Svinoy tribe and who was in power (i've copied and pasted the information below) which I kind of have to trust at this point. She told me that she got Papa Smurf to flip and I told her that Stacey asked me to flip last week. She said that her main target was Jessica and I feel like that's probably the correct move.
I sat out in the immunity challenge because Cecilia wanted to do it, Papa Smurf says he does word puzzles, Stacy was the leader and Cecilia wanted Jessica because she's good at challenges and shit. idk where I would put that under but I would put that here.
~~Section 3: Cecilia's Message ~~
"You know we're halfway from a second swap. I wouldn't go against them if we lose tomorrow -God forbid- but if we lose the one after that then hell yes, one of them could end up in the opposite tribe post second swap. And I'm saying Jessica because Stacy and Papa S were kind of outcasted at the old Mykines. I've digged. This is what I know.
1) Cass and Liliana had an controlling alliance, Cass was close to Mookie and Anthony and I SUSPECT Jessica was in that alliance too.
2) Papa S doesn't like Mookie. So he's not in the alliance. He was disappointed with his ranking also, he thought he had made strong connections there.
3) I am yet to talk with Stacy about her ranking but Papa S said he doesn't know much about her, she was kind of inactive in the beginning. She's prob our wildcard.
That power alliance needs to be broken and Jess is the weak link there. They somehow convinced Candice and Penner to flip and now they're doomed. I really hope it's not Candice. But I don't think she's good at challenges so it may be her. She is my closest ally but it seems I'll have to move on from her. :( Also it's super fun that Yau Man has won three immunities in a row when he doesn't have an idol. I love the fact that Rebecca and Flicka are moving on too, they're clueless as fuck.
I'm very sorry for Adam. Part of my original core alliance. :("
~~Section 4: (Unsuccessfully) Idol Hunting
After the next clue I figured it had something to do with Eastur (or whatever that island was spelled) so I googled a list of towns on that island and attempted all of them. After that I tried a lot of foreign ways to spell "island" because I figure both clues should sort of lead to the same place so I figured it might be something about crossover between the lyrics of that song and the second clue which had the words "any further and you'll hit water" which I assumed meant either an Island or Coastal city. After I post this I'm going to google "coastal faroe island cities" and see if I get any luck there.
~~Section 5: Actually Answering the Questions that were asked to me
1. What are your thoughts regarding Adam's boot from Hestur? What do you think might have gone down and how does it affect your game, if at all?
I feel like Adam's boot from Hestur probably indicates that either Penner/Candice flipped or they lost the rock draw. I feel like probably the latter because I don't think Adam would be anybody's first target. i feel like this will probably negatively impact my game because it may lead to original Svinoys being picked off, but I feel like we'd get to know our post-swap tribes better so I feel like that'll probably have more power.
2. You've had some time to get to know your newer tribemates in the past day or so, are tribal lines still in effect or is that line beginning to blur a bit?
The line isn't really blurring at this point, granted JP is annoyingly inactive and it seems like Papa Smurf is trying to flip and Jessica and Stacy are trying to flip me so I guess that's going to be what it's like until we actually lose. Hopefully we don't and get a brawn-tribe esque draw, but I guess everything happens for a reason.
3. Have you thought about tribal lines on the other tribes? Who do you think would stay loyal to their original tribes and who do you think might join up with new friends?
As I mentioned above, Adam's boot on Hestur probably was based on tribal lines. We have no idea knowing if it was from a rock draw or a flip - but I think post-swap loyalties are going to take hold in the case of a second swap. Jessica and Cecilia are the only ones who won't profit in that situation (the other four of us were all pretty low picks), so I feel like that'll probably take charge on this tribe.
4. If you could vote someone out from your tribe right now, who would it be and why?
Jessica because of her being a potential threat. Maybe we tell Papa Smurf that we're voting Stacey so she doesn't use the idol if she finds it.
5. Please give a full ranking of your tribe and don't go light on the dirt. Spill the beans for us.
I refuse to. I like to keep my beans in a glass little jar inside the cupboard. I don't like them all over the ground with broken glass everywhere.
