Episode 02

Postby Jeff Varner » Mon Aug 17, 2015 9:58:48 pm

Hey Nate. Less than 24 hours into the game and you've already been swapped. What's up?

So, with tribe swap over and done with, I have some cool new questions for you to answer:

1. You ended up being ranked #9 for the old Svinoy, got any thoughts on that?

2. You ended up picking Stacy. Why Stacy?

3. You're reunited with Cecilia and JP. How do you feel about these two? And how do you feel about how your three new members?

4. Also, what do you think about how the tribes ended up shaking out?

Mykines is a pretty shitty tribe name. "Svinoy" brings like viking imagery while "Mykines" is a 54-year old Irishman who for whatever reason thinks he's teaching High School Spanish and touches some of the girls inappropriately when they go to bars on the weekend.

Welcome to "tonight on Exile Island" which is what I call the period where literally everybody else is asleep and I do confessionals

1. You ended up being ranked #9 for the old Svinoy, got any thoughts on that?
I'm the new guy, I did nothing in the past challenge, honestly can't blame them for that.

2. You ended up picking Stacy. Why Stacy?
I know she was 9th place as well, if it ends up being on tribal lines she'd be the easiest to flip

3. You're reunited with Cecilia and JP. How do you feel about these two? And how do you feel about how your three new members?

Cecilia -> I think I said before that I think Cecilia was in and or the leader of the major alliance and how she reminded me of Danni from my Aus Season. I think now that we swapped she's lost a lot of her power which is good for me and I feel like I could trust her in the short term, but I'm really weary about rewriting history . But honestly in that season if I was a bit more social I think i could have won it which is why I'm not particularly worried.

JP -> I get a really weird read off JP. I don't know why. I think he'll be loyal but he doesn't seem to be 100% honest in his PMs. He seems fishy when I'm asking him the most random inconsequential questions, like when we were doing age/location intros he left everything vague. Like when I said I was 18 and lived in the Philippines he said "I'm younger than you and live in America", which I believe can apply to a decent percentage of this game - unless if he lives in America City, Peru

Stacey -> She seems nice. It's weird that despite having a five day advantage I have passed her on post count. It was interesting to see that she was the first one to message me. She could want to flip or they could be trying to flip me - I have no idea yet.

Jessica -> Jessica seems to be a strong player - she's thinking strategically and indicated so in her chat to me but said "oh we'll talk about it later". She presented herself as a strategic option but indicated it as if she was thinking of the tribe and cared about me as a person first. I feel like I might be overanalyzing it but the fact that I can do that means that she probably overthought it too.

Papa Smurf -> Papa Smurf seems to be a fun guy. He didn't indicate anything about strategy but I don't think he will until we lose a(n) immunity challenge. I don't think he's on the oust of that tribe, but then again I have no idea who is. I think he was high on their tribe ranking (I'm not going to be fucked to try to find his exact place).

4. Also, what do you think about how the tribes ended up shaking out?
I feel like if I were to pick between the three tribes I would pick this one, shitty name aside - but I have no idea about how this is going to shape up strategically. I have nothing to gain or lose from flipping at this stage if it does end up on tribal lines, but I feel like that's not going to happen. I think in my opinion this tribe is going to depend on whether or not Jessica and Cicilia try to target each other. If yes - I feel like it'll go down tribal lines, if not - it will depend on who's on the bottom of each side.

Also - never got to say this line "shit so cray we could chop it up" (I'm currently on 95 references to chopped poo remaining)
I'm also reinstalling Hoverzoom (which I personally find annoying) because I remember it led to me finding an idol clue accidentally on my AusSeason.

Okay we won and everybody is asleep.

Stacy -> She talked to me asking me to flip, I said something like "oh i'm unsure because that would look bad, but i'll take that deal if we lose" and then we won so that doesn't matter. Yay! Pointless storylines! She phrased it in a way as "oh i think we have us two and then I think I could get Jessica and Papa Bear" which made me -_-. We talked about mutually being 9th and she gave me a bland "i trust you" which 99% of the time means she's trying to get me on her side and doesn't actually trust me.

JP -> He sent me two messages about how he refused to eat a pizza because he thought a pepper or a mushroom was on it. He said he didn't check to see what was actually on the pizza until after the challenge (2 hours after he initially proposed the Pizza idea) and apparently when he looked at the final slice he found out it was pepperoni and didn't eat it because it was cold. -_-. So here's a few messages for JP.

1) Cold Pizza + Microwave = Hot Pizza
2) Mushrooms and some peppers are usually fine on Pizza
3) Pepperoni is to Pizza what Vanilla is to Ice Cream, I immediately call into question anybody who's "Pizza of Choice" is Pepperoni Pizza. Like, people who order cheese pizza are at least ordering for a group and doesn't want to offend anybody. Pepperoni both is boring and excludes people who don't want meat on their pizza. So purely based on that assumption I don't trust JP at all.

Papa Smurf -> Papa Smurf has only sent me one sentence replies, granted I do that too but you have to leave something open for audience interaction. Like "oh i do too, how's your day" you need to close on a question to continue the conversation further, because in a social game quantity always trumps quality - its better for someone to know you well then think your the best at talking.

Jessica -> We talked a bit about BB and Survivor. She's apparently only started watching Survivor recently and I asked her about it and she acted like I called her out on something (weirdly defensively). Apparently she got through ORGs via BB and just applied for this one but if a Survivor trivia contest comes up, -_-.

Cecilia -> Cecilia was adamant on wanting to stick with us three and said her goal was to try to flip Stacey and Jessica. Granted, I feel like a decent goal would be an alliance of four between the girls+me (even though the odds are that all three of them are guys - I believe Jessica might have even said she's gay - which I think pertains to guys only? or is gay a term that applies to lesbians as well? this is not a thought I want to continue any further if I don't want to be thrashed by the lurkers). She just generally told me to "be myself" and "be funny" which I guess isn't really a strong suit of mine and I guess I can't really see the point of it. Oh well.

The idol clue should probably come up soon (if it's not only being sent to Jessica - I have no idea if it is or not) which should give me a bit of a time zone based advantage.

Ok two things stood out to me about the clue
1) the national anthem of the faroe islands
2) venture, which is a word in the national anthem

I've tried the faroese versions of the title and now i'm trying the word "venture" in faroese and maybe even the whole third line

I also figure to get me something to do I'll have something called "N8's movie reviews" where I'll review the movies I see pretty much every day to slow down the monotony of having nothing to do every day while everybody else is asleep.

Yesterday I watched "Man from U.N.C.L.E" which I rate 5/8. The main problem is that Superman and Army Hammer had more sexual chemistry with each other than any of the romantic leads. If they made it a gay attraction in the 1960s I feel like I would find it a lot more interesting, it's a very pretty movie but not a very deep movie - especially because you can see all the twists coming miles ahead. Also some of the action scenes are really hard to navigate just geography wise. Especially the comic book panel shots ala the Ang Lee Hulk, where all the shots were so dark you couldn't differentiate them.

Today I watched "Inside Out" which I know America has gotten a lot earlier than me, but shut up. I've been avoiding spoilers for this movie like the plague because I'm a Pixar nut, but honestly this seemed to not to have an iconic moment that most of the other pixar films have - granted I walked out of the movie 15 minutes ago, but I don't think there'll be a scene like Ego's speech, the Edna Mode scene or the first 10 minutes of Up. I r8 7/8, because it's fucking Pixar. It's about the level of Monsters University where it runs at slightly-below-Pixar quality throughout the whole running time, but nothing that really sticks the landing IMO.

Tomorrow I will either watch Attack on Titan, Vacation or Hitman: Agent 47, whichever is least depressing to watch alone because all my friends are too busy planning shit behind my back. Fucken' assholes. I guess I now have to leave a pseudo-humorous tweet about having to watch movies alone in case somebody saw me watching it alone - because that's my sad, miserable existence.

Anyway, speaking of my sad, miserable existence, let's get back to analyzing the lyrics of the Faroe Islands national anthem.

Given its obvious importance, what's your favourite kind of pizza?

Idol guessing <3 How's it going?

Nate r8s:

I watched Inside Out with my cousin who is 3 and he had 0 interest in it so I just watched it by myself basically and you are right. The part where
Spoiler: show
the imaginary friend jumps off the back of the rainbow-powered cart to give Joy enough lift to get out of the pit is pretty sad, though easy to predict

Pizza:
> Depends where I'm ordering. We have a place here called Yellow Cab where all the meat they put on Pizza is absolutely terrible so I tend to order mushrooms on that. Pretty much 80% of the pizza is extremely light on the sauce (it's borderline cheese and bread), which honestly kinds of pisses me off.

Idol Guessing:
> I've tried different permutations of one-to-three word phrases of the faroe islands national anthem but I haven't had luck. There's no faroese to english translator that has enough words for me to work with to get a good idea - so I guess I have to work on the wikipedia definition, which according to the Danish->English translator and the Faroese->Danish translators is not particularly accurate.

Inside Out:
> Yeah exactly, like once you know where the story is going it doesn't really do anything surprising
Spoiler: show
Like the main point is the Joy "Sadness is needed" storyline, but you don't really get development from the rest of the emotions (but I feel like the development is limited due to the premise)

also if the idol password has a symbol like the ae in encyclopædia or a tilde or a tick or whatever, will that be anglicized or should I use the special character?

There are no special characters. If a symbol like æ was in the password you would write it as 'ae'.
