Episode 01

Postby John Cochran » Thu Aug 13, 2015 6:54:50 pm

Hey, I'm John Cochran, WINNER of Stranded in the Marquesas (All Stars).

Welcome to Stranded in the Faroe Islands!

You'll be seeing a lot of me here, as well as our 10 other co-hosts as we pick your brain to see what's really going on in your head throughout the game. Feel free to ask any of us questions in here if you need to, we've all been through it before and are more than willing to help.

Each round, we'll start by asking some introductory questions, and I just want to ask that you answer in complete statements. We will be actively blogging on each episode, and it's easier to do so if we have real quotes and complete thoughts as opposed to simple yes or no answers. We hope you keep up with your confessionals daily during the week as a way to vent and discuss the events of that day. The more you update your confessional, the better idea we have of whats going on in your head, and also the more fan favorite points you'll earn yourself come the end of the season icon_yes . You don't have to only update when you are prompted to, whenever you have an idea shoot it at us because we want to know everything.

So..

How confident are you going into this game that you will win?

What are your opinions of your fellow tribemates?

What is your strategy and approach to the game?

How do you think your rep fits you? Do you think being this character will affect your gameplay at all?

What are your thoughts on the twist? Change your strategy at all going in to these first few days?

Best of luck out there.

How confident are you going into this game that you will win?

I'll win.

What are your opinions of your fellow tribemates?

I don't have an opinion, as they all seem to scared to talk yet. They could be biding their time, or they could just be a bunch of milquetoasts. Looking at the post counts of everyone playing, it looks like the other tribe is really social, whereas my tribe has a lot of introverts. This could be good, as they're less likely to falter in an alliance with me, or it could mean we won't be able to form connections. Or maybe everyone but me is PM'ing each other already. If the other tribe is full of a bunch of big personalities, then even if my tribe is down in numbers come merge they might just be so sick of each other that they'll use us as votes against each other.

What is your strategy and approach to the game?

Bruh, I got so many ideas in my head you can't even comprehend. Do you ask William Shakespeare to describe his approach to writing? Probably not, since he is dead, but if he were alive and you asked that he would probably be like, "What? I can't do that, because my writing speaks for itself." So basically I have no idea and I'm going to take it as it comes.

How do you think your rep fits you? Do you think being this character will affect your gameplay at all?

Okay, so the only reason I'm Cassandra is because I was afk for like over a week after getting "cast" and was the last to do the interview (which means I was already a lock btw icon_cool ), and so there were no characters left to pick from and they told me I was Cassandra and I was like, "MHMMMMMM!" But I think it will help me, because she's as unassuming as it gets. No one will have any idea how I'll play the game. I mean, I don't even know how Cassandra played the game. But shit, at least I'm not Lisi.

What are your thoughts on the twist? Change your strategy at all going in to these first few days?

Yeah, looks like Yau Man is an idiot for taking the public idol. He's going to be the first target for sure. I kind of admire his enthusiasm to take it and play the game, and I might have done the same if I had gotten to that thread in time and was pepped up on adrenaline, but I didn't, so I can say that was a bad move. But if he really is dumb, it might be beneficial for me to ally with him if I'm on the outs at all so he might give me his idol or something.

Best of luck out there.

y-you too

New strategy: wait until the last second to join an alliance so I'll be the one on the bottom, which will justify flipping on them later. So crazy it just might work.

Have you had any good talks with fellow tribemates? Any headway in the game?

Not really. Liliana talked to me for a little bit and I mentioned that I hadn't talked to anyone else yet hoping that she'd realize I didn't have an alliance yet, but she never responded. I sent introductory messages to everyone else but so far only Yau Man has responded. I asked him if Yau was his first choice of character, to which he answered that he was. So right now he's comparing himself to one of the biggest strategic and social threats ever AND has an idol. Maybe he's trying to establish himself as a threat right away or something but he really seems like an obvious boot. Unless he's amazing at challenges like Yau Man unexpectedly was.

Papa Smurf just said everyone was pretty talkative. I have talked to no one. Perhaps I am fucked.

Scratch that. I have wormed my way into the inner-working of this so-called "tribe." I think they have come to accept me as one of their own. Everyone assumes I'm a girl, and I'm not going to correct them, because a) a powerful woman is more impressive in this game than a powerful man, b) as sexist as it is, a woman who sits next to an overly strategic man at the end will almost always suck the votes from him, c) all-women alliances are often made, whereas all-men ones never are, d) a woman going off on a man doesn't have the misogynistic undertone that the reverse does, and e) girls are cute, who doesn't like girls?

Jessica seems really cool. I have the same type of humor as her so I'll know when she's being serious and when she's not. Anthony hasn't played an ORG before, so we could connect by teaching each other as the game goes on. Unfortunately, no one is yet clamoring to form an alliance with me, but we'll see how it goes.

Apparently I've been talking to exactly the right people. I talked to Liliana and Jessica, and the former says she trusts the latter. I talked to Anthony and Stacy, and same thing. That's five, and Yau Man isn't in it. We good. I good.

Holy shit, this is actually hilarious. The alliance of five is pretty much confirmed, and now Liliana and Jessica want the "goddesses" (them and myself) to create a core alliance of three. Looks like pretending to be a girl really paid off.

It's a fun game when the effort is in it!

Also, Are there any players that you ahve noticed have not been as active as the rest? Would you consider them first boot targets?

Mookie, Rita, and Rocky haven't been very active at all. Rocky not as much, since he just replied to me. But they don't seem like first boots to me, more like goats. If they stay this inactive, their votes won't even play a factor. First boot is more like Yau Man, who I've already rallied everyone behind for playing too hard. Jessica told me she made an "alliance" with him already, but that just tells me she trusts me more than him. But Papa Smurf is the safest choice, since Yau Man could easily play his idol. The plan right now is to let Yau Man think he's going home first (I told Jessica to tip him off that we're voting for him) so he plays the idol, and then vote someone else (Papa Smurf, if I can convince everyone).

Are you concerned that by getting rid of the more active players, it will hurt your chances in challenges going forward?

So far I don't have any evidence that the less active players won't be good for challenges. If there are people that consistently don't show up for challenges it could be an issue. But even Mookie and Rita have been online and posted at some point or another, so we'll have to wait and see how everyone does in the challenge later.

I'm pretty happy with my alliance(s). The best part is that I didn't even create the Goddesses suballiance, so I know I'm one of the more well-liked people already, at least within the Beautiful Alliance. I have to watch out for Jessica, though, because apparently she's close to every single person, and makes them feel like their relationship to her is exclusive because of her flirting. Rocky is on the outs of our alliance, but we're using him as the sixth vote in the first tribal, and I actually feel like he's my best option to go deep into the game with. He had a bad first impression by being offline so much (hell, it's five minutes before the challenge and he's still offline), he has a really bombastic personality (wonder what drew him to Rocky's character), and he's shit-talked Jessica already, with more people to follow probably, so I can always pit him against someone else if need be or just sit next to him at the end. He's already said--unprompted, I might add--that he's going to cling to me for now, and he doesn't have many other options, so I'm gonna keep him in as long as I can.

Right before the immunity challenge, Jessica asked me if I wanted to be partners, which I guess is significant. If I were picking a partner, I would probably choose someone I wasn't too close to. Maybe Jessica's mindset is different and she just thought we'd work well together, which is probably true anyway. But after hearing about her flirting with everyone I actually have no idea where I stand with her. She said she trusted me the most out of everyone, which is great because I don't trust her at all. Maybe that will change after the first tribal, though. At any rate, she's giving me a lot of fuel and I can either create a burning love between us with it or a raging fire between her and others. That was good, keep that in the edit.

As far as challenge performance, I wasn't too surprised. Actually I was more surprised Stephannie on the other tribe couldn't fix her simple mix-up on her puzzle. Props to Stacy for coming in late and using that to her advantage, though; that was great. I kind of expected Yau Man to do worse than he anticipated, but the way it happened was pretty funny. He came in like ten minutes late and completely left out a row.

After the challenge ended I had like fifty messages, a few personal congratulations and a few group celebrations. I feel like Papa Smurf is trying to get closer to me. Not sure how to feel about that.

I'm gonna try to say everything in one post, because if someone sees my post count increase a lot they could think I'm strategizing like hell or something. Probably an unnecessary precaution, but a precaution nonetheless.

Soooooooooooooooooooo...Liliana told me and Jessica that she was bored today, so I asked if they knew any forum-style games. I was hoping Jessica would take the opportunity to start one herself, and since she and I are competing for the most active tribe members right now, that push is what I needed to make her seem like the bigger threat. But, of course, since it's Jessica there's this ambiguous ulterior motive behind the game. She picks Would You Rather. If you're unacquainted with the game, it's how you judge people without saying you're judging them. And it's so appropriate for this game because you can create these analogous scenarios and guess what people would do if the Stranded equivalent ever arose.

The game starts out as a bust because everyone is inactive, but Mookie, who probably thinks everyone has been online here 25/8, was like, "Oh shit, I gotta get in favor!" and starts playing with us. And within five minutes Jessica messages me asking what I think of Mookie, because he's apparently ALREADY approached her about an alliance, to which she recommended he joins our Goddess alliance. I don't know where he fits in there, but the Greeks were into a lot of weird shit so I wouldn't be surprised if at least one goddess was actually a drag queen.

So let's make a tally of Jessica's "alliances":
her, Yau, and Papa
her and me
her, Liliana, and me
her, Liliana, me, and Mookie
her, Liliana, me, Anthony, and Stacy
Combine that with all the ones I might not know about and that comes down to a whopping total of too fucking many. But counter-intuitively, it makes me feel more secure. I know I can trust her now because who the hell would go through all that just to make one person feel safe?

But after all that, I still trust one person much more than her, and it's...ROCKY!!! Rocky seems to think we're all kumbaya as a tribe and suggested saving all our individual immunities should we ever lose a challenge so that at the merge we can just whip 'em out and watch the other tribe shrivel in defeat. That's not gonna happen. First, because we're gonna have to vote people on our tribe out, and if someone feels they're in danger they're going to use their necklace, second because there's a high probability of a tribe swap, and third because there aren't even enough challenges until the merge for that. I like Rocky, but sometimes he fulfills the meathead stereotype.

Meanwhile, challenge in two hours. We gonna win.
